Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
