Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments made him a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her American tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
