Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
