People have come together around the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are considered accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state remembrance events until October 16th - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the affected families, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was respected around the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations convened in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of negotiations started at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not produce any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance distribution
  • Future management of the area

Public Reaction

In the city's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose brother lived through the attack on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - told: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until each abducted person come back not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

Near the leader's home in the capital, people congregated to express their backing for the relatives of the captives. Israel reports 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "We need do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Research now consistently show that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the conflict to end in exchange for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of Nova festival, those paying respects assembled to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people said the severe Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were noted in the dawn of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and zone areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the dusk arrives, the fear appears with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli air strike last year, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, especially my youngest child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Medical Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had received the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said two more dead people had been transported. A person was died by Israeli troops while seeking aid to the south region, health workers reported.
