Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left hamstring after the final ball that he bowled during the morning session.

The England team reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

England have been without strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 with the bat being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a variation to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed the Adelaide game.
