Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Problems and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with performances this poor.”

He finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is gone, we will always fight.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
