Sweden Selection Announcement: Alexander Isak Named Whereas Gyokeres Excluded
The striker joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon this summer
Gunners forward Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted from Graham Potter's maiden Swedish national squad, whereas Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has earned a place
Gyokeres is set for further medical tests in the coming days following worries he sustained a hamstring injury during Arsenal's English top flight triumph at Burnley on Saturday
Gyokeres sat out Arsenal' Champions League win versus the Czech side earlier this week
Alexander Isak Returns
Isak, absent from action from 22 October owing to a groin problem, made the squad to play in the World Cup matches against Switzerland (November 15th) and Slovenia (18 November)
Other Premier League Selections
- Spurs midfielder Lucas Bergvall, working his way back from concussion
- Newcastle wide player Anthony Elanga
Both athletes were included in the England-based contingent selected under former Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham manager the new Swedish coach
Potter's Hiring
Potter took over the Swedish federation first for an interim period in late October, less than a month following leaving from the Hammers
Former boss Jon Dahl Tomasson lost his job after the national team's defeat against the Kosovan team on 13 October, an outcome which rendered direct progression from qualifying group unattainable
Current Position
Sweden are currently bottom in their qualifying group having only one point in four matches
Should they don't manage to secure second place, they may yet take part in the World Cup play-offs as a result of their results during the previous UEFA competition
