The President Invites Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told reporters. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to halt asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on television.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor told the audience at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
