The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
