Triple award winner Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half in an accidental contact with teammate Jones.
Jones landed on the footwear of Jokic, who instantly fell to the ground grabbing his leg.
The star, that is leading the league season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to incurring the problem.
Jokic will have an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the problem.
"Immediately, Jokic realized something was wrong," commented Denver coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that is injured, that's difficult, particularly a player as important as him. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust as a team. Clearly, right now, I am focused primarily about Jokic personally and the disappointment of going through something like that."
